ABOUT ESCALATE

Escalate is building a better way for large corporations to reduce the high turnover of frontline employees by investing tax-deductible tuition dollars to train their employees. The training can be done anytime and anywhere, without interfering with the employees work hours or fluctuating work schedules, with support available 7 days/week.
Escalates founders have decades of experience in workforce development. They know what it takes to create a program designed to identify, support, train and advance talent. They are building a product that will allow upskilling to happen at scale for enterprise companies.
WHY ESCALATE?
40% of Americans are stuck in low-wage jobs with little prospect for advancement. These individuals are overwhelmingly Black and Brown, women and caregivers. They live paycheck to paycheck and the traditional education and workforce systems have failed them.
At the same time, 75% of employers say they cant hire people with the skills they need for advanced roles and 83% of retail employers cant retain their entry-level talent. This problem will only grow. Research from Emsi and others shows that the US is in the beginning phases of a great demographic drought that is projected to worsen throughout the century and will impact every business, college, and region.
The answer to Americas talent crisis must solve a business problem for enterprise companies in a way that leads to greater equity. That is Escalate.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Escalate is an early stage startup looking for an experienced Engineering Lead to join the team. This individual will manage the day-to-day technology execution, provide hands-on technical leadership, and ensure consistent best practices, processes, and procedures for software development, product design and quality assurance.

As one of the first five team members, you will engage with investors and advisors as required. You will work closely with the CEO and President.

RESPONSIBILITIES

As Engineering Lead, you will spend the first year:
Fostering a culture of exploration of new ideas and experimentation, leading to innovative features that will disrupt the space
In collaboration with other organizational leaders, defining and executing on the vision, strategy, and roadmap for the business
Collaborating with leadership across the organization to influence cross-departmental strategy and priorities
Complementing the CEO, and other senior executives, in strategic decision making and other key roles
Overseeing no/low code pilot to collect data, creating roadmap, and beginning product design process

After our pilot year, we anticipate the second year to focus on scaling the technology team including:
Hiring, managing, mentoring and inspiring a team of engineers that consistently delivers on projects with the level of quality that drives business outcomes
Supporting engineering hiring process and ongoing talent development

In the third year, and beyond, the focus will shift to:
Managing KPIs and establish operational standards for systems performance across the technical organization
Scaling the technical team and processes across the organization through strategic resourcing and prioritization
Fostering a culture of exploration of new ideas and experimentation, leading to innovative features that will disrupt the space

ABOUT YOU

You are a visionary, strategic and passionate technology leader energized about the early-stage startup environment and comfortable working in a highly agile, intensely iterative software development process. You have an entrepreneurial mindset and know how to balance speed to market and elegance in technical design. You care deeply about people and are interested in building teams with a high level of trust and collaboration.

Specific requirements include, but not limited to:

Strong technical credentials, with 5+ years of technical engineering, including proven software deliverables
Demonstrated passion for Escalate's mission
A deep understanding through previous startup experience of whats required at each stage of a companys growth and ability to meet the business needs
Ability and capacity to communicate about technical, architectural, and organizational problems and propose thorough iterative solutions clearly and concisely
Possess expert knowledge in performance, scalability, enterprise system architecture, and engineering best practices
Ability to build, coach, and nurture teams and lead products through high-pressure launches
Leading teams to iterate on products in a lean way
