User Experience Designer

Summary

I am a UX Designer who is passionate about helping people, finding solutions, and designing for a more positive and inclusive world. This year I took a bootcamp course with General Assembly, immersing myself in over 450 hours of UX work within 3 months. I am an enthusiastic and bubbling ball of energy ready to tackle the next design problem (just ask my colleagues!). I enjoy user research, ideation, information architecture and creating joyful designs. I want to get to know my users, and work to be their advocate for change.
You may have noticed on my resume that I was a buyer for 6 years, and in retail for over 12. Why a career change? About a year ago I discovered a burning passion to push myself to my highest potential, and discover how far I can go. Retail has treated me well, but I feel that my potential for growth lies in UX, and Im ready to climb higher. As a Product Buyer, I enjoyed getting to know my customer base, making them smile, and bringing in products that truly helped and fit them. I was often complimented on my strong problem solving skills, accuracy, confidence, buying intuition, focus, determination, empathetic approach and hardworking spirit. I was inspired to apply these skills in my next career venture, which led me to UX Design. Being a user experience designer means getting the chance to make an impact in the world, and to make a positive difference in peoples lives. To me, UX is so much more than a career: its a worldwide movement--a lifestyle and new way of thinking.
In addition, my 6 years at my previous role gave me experience in website upkeep, using UX-like thinking and design (before I knew what that was!) From imagery, graphic design, writing, UI, and page structure, I always thought about how to edit the site so our customers could understand and flow through the site as easily as possible. I am the type of person who can learn quickly and thoroughly. Furthermore, my 12+ years of experience in the customer service industry taught me valuable skills that relate to UX, such as empathy, humility, problem solving, communication, critical thinking, organization, teamwork, management, teaching, and the joy of serving others.
