UI/UX Product Designer

Summary

I graduated with a degree in electrical and telecommunication engineering. During the lockdown in 2020, I leveraged my copywriting skills, initially developed as a side hustle, and excelled in the field. It was during this period of writing copies for my clients that I realized copywriting can only go so far in boosting user retention and conversion; real impact required keenly understanding the user needs and creating an experience that will keep them coming back to the platform. This is how I stumbled upon UI/UX design and I immediately embraced it. The transition to designing user interfaces felt natural to me because, as an engineer, I was accustomed to drawing electrical designs on AutoCAD.

Additionally, my decision to move to UI/UX was motivated by the opportunity it provided to fuse my technical background especially in telecommunication engineering with my business and creative communication skills developed through copywriting, creating a unique blend of technical expertise and business-oriented creativity.

Notable achievements so far include my role as a Product Designer at Elewa, where I hugely contributed to the design of an innovative financial management SaaS product, and recognition in the Qureos Product Design Challenge, in which I came 3rd among hundreds of product designers. I am currently freelancing on a very interesting project, and am actively seeking a new UI/UX role to make best use of my existing skills and experience and also further my personal development.
