Technical Writer
Summary
Creative, quick-learning, and tools-savvy team player with excellent writing and graphics skills. Over 20 years developing and writing technical content for software and hardware using Flare, FrameMaker, and Word. Successful former small-business owner with proven training, brand-building, and people skills.
Expectations
I'd like to join a small team of writers and content developers who value creativity, modern content design and delivery, and straight-forward consistent documentation.
I enjoy being part of a team and building personal relationships and also thrive when I have autonomy to work on a project on my own. One of my favorite things to do is take a collection of information, break it down into chunks, and find a better way to organize and present it. Being able to share my expertise and experience and serve as a mentor for other writers is important to me.
The best positions I've had were filled with variety, from writing and illustrating a technical document one month, to helping create brochures and other marketing collateral the next, to updating the code behind a web page for our internal document library. Variety and learning new things keeps me interested and motivated.
I'd prefer to work on customer-focused documentation (versus internal engineering API-type docs) for a fun and interesting product or service, but of course every case is different. Although I am a "technical" writer, I come with an eye for creativity and usability and act as a strong advocate for making the user's life easier!
