System Administrator

Summary

I'm a self-taught IT professional with a diverse technical background, I'm looking to transition into a System Administrator or similar role. Some of my experience includes working as a Data Center Technician for a top-tier tech company on their server diagnostics team, initially as a contractor and later as a full-time employee. In total, I spent around two years honing my skills in these positions, which provided me with a strong foundation in server hardware and software maintenance, troubleshooting, and diagnostics.

During my time as a contractor and a full-time employee at my previous job, I was responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting the server infrastructure and related systems. In both roles, I installed, configured, tested, diagnosed, repaired, and maintained server hardware and software, including the company's Linux cluster and related components and systems. I collaborated closely with cross-functional teams to diagnose, resolve, and document high-priority bugs and technical issues, utilizing my extensive knowledge of Linux command-line tools and system architecture.

In addition to my data center experience, I've held a Technical Support Specialist role at a rural fixed-wireless ISP in the Midwest, where I primarily provided technical support for business customers. My responsibilities included diagnosing, resolving, and documenting hardware and software issues, configuring networking equipment, mainly Ubiquiti products, and troubleshooting connectivity issues. I collaborated with network administrators to identify and resolve complex network issues as needed.

Alongside my professional work experience, I also run my own IT services and consulting company, where I oversee the server and network infrastructure and have been developing and maintaining internal web applications. This has allowed me to further develop my skills outside of work in designing, deploying, and monitoring server and network infrastructure, while also gaining invaluable experience in developing full-stack web applications. Currently, the company primarily offers both managed and unmanaged VPS hosting and Colocation services.

I believe being self-taught in IT has given me a unique perspective and a strong drive to continuously learn and adapt. My background in Linux, servers, data centers, networking, IT infrastructure operations, maintenance and repair, network troubleshooting, and network infrastructure has prepared me for success in a System Administrator or similar role. I'm eager to bring my expertise to my next employer all while contributing to their success.

Expectations

I hope to find a collaborative and supportive team that values continuous learning and professional development. Working with colleagues who share my passion for problem-solving and can push me to grow as a technical expert is important to me. I believe that working together and sharing knowledge leads to innovative solutions and improved team performance. A company culture that encourages growth and has learning opportunities is essential for me. I appreciate organizations that invest in employee development. I also value the opportunity to make a positive impact on the organization and its clients. I want to work for a company that appreciates my contributions and allows me to help drive success by leveraging my skills and experience. Feeling a sense of purpose and accomplishment in my role is important to me.
