Summary

I am a very experienced developer, not only with passion for software, but also with a vision and with focus on software quality. I have over forty years of experience working with computers and creating software solutions. With still over ten years to go I am always looking for new experiences, learning opportunities and additional successes.

I'm fond of putting to good use my analytical proficiency, my sense of responsibility, and my ability to develop and promote a vision.

In 2016-2021 I developed software for detecting database changes, reconstructing the involved business events, and creating messages to communicate these events to other applications. Equally, incoming messages were being processed into the database. I even developed a generator that generate all required application code from a custom-built metadata model. I'm proud of having conceived the architecture for this solution and even more so for its high quality level: there have been very few incidents.

In 1999/2000 I invented, architected, and built a software product to perform file conversions in a way that is completely transparent for applications using those data files. My pride extends beyond inventing and building the product to doing so within the initial planning.

In 2000/2001 I worked to modify a module for speech recognition. For the design we developed a Finite State Machine model. Which was an extremely instructive experience.

In 1993 I built an automated printer operator for handling prints and overviews. These were identified using parametrised recognition features, then reformatted and distributed as needed.

In the years 1987-1991 I built a complete ERP package for a wholesale company.

In the open source community I have been involved since 2005 with z390, a java based emulator of IBM's High Level Assembler.

Starting in 2005 I was involved in validating z390 functionality.
As of 2013 I have also served as international coordinator of the volunteers working on z390 maintenance. In this role I motivated the team to embrace github as a source control system.

As a developer I was responsible for realizing the scripting facility for regression testing.

As an architect I have authored the design documents when creating our z390 version of VSAM.

Expectations

I expect to be part of a (multi-disciplinary) development team in an organization that does professional software development. I would love to work with the colleagues to create/improve application designs where my focus would be on the database and data modelling part. I would want to be responsible for ensuring performance, scalability, and availability of the database part, and would like to contribute to the overall quality of the application. To my mind this includes making sure the application conforms to defined architecture, and is fit for future functional extensions.
