Principal UX Designer

Summary

12 years in UX design at small and medium companies. I excel at qualitative research, usability testing, rapid prototyping, and project management. I've built research & design pipelines from scratch at more than one organization. In my last role I was director of UX and product, while also contributing hands-on designs and research for a massive open source project. To round it all out, I've also got some engineering experience. I prefer to work for nonprofits when I can, but if you're doing right by your users and the planet, I'd love to talk.

Expectations

I'm looking for an organization that is doing its level best to fix things and reduce harm, that knows it needs UX practitioners to accomplish its mission. I consider UX design a public service, and UX designers public servants. As public servants our duty is to not only users, but also to society and the planet. I will constantly encourage you to think about what kind of product you want to put out into the world and what kind of legacy you want to leave.

On the subject of workplace culture, I prefer remote-first organizations that prioritize work/life balance and the health of their employees.
