Policy Analyst
Summary
As a former student of the Bachelor of Commerce in Economics and Public Policy, I graduated with an Upper Second Class Honours classification from the University of Malta. Considering that my studies included a great deal of econometrics and given my affinity for statistics, I consider myself adept at utilising the entirety of the Microsoft Office Suite, and the statistical software SPSS and EViews. Apart from this, given my background in computing science, I have gained limited experience with the computing software Java, R Stata, and Python. Furthermore, due to my ambitious and inquisitive nature, I have taught myself how to utilise Power BI to present data in a more accessible and user-friendly manner. I believe that such competencies would be of great use to any organisation that is willing to give this young man a chance.
Moreover, as a former real-estate agent, understanding the wants and needs of my clients, building a trusting and working relationship with them, and negotiating between different perspectives to reach an end goal are all second nature to me. These skills were further accentuated given my experience in a managerial position within the hospitality sector, where I was responsible for the entire process of employee onboarding; this included the utilising of LinkedIn Recruitment Tools to find new talent all the way up to the training of staff for their new roles. Such positions allowed me to develop a professional and courteous manner early on in my working life due to their client-oriented nature. With this said, I am also no stranger to the more administrative side of business. Scheduling and keeping track of my and my clienteles timetable, ushering clients to apartment viewings, providing virtual tours of apartments, and handling the necessary paperwork that comes with closing deals are all tasks that I am adept at performing. Furthermore, my proactive nature, determination, and perseverance are the traits that I believe allowed me to take home the Frank Salt Best New Recruit 2018 award in my time as a real estate agent.
My last two working experiences were as a public policy researcher within Maltas Ministry for Social Justice and Ministry for Agriculture. I decided to pursue these opportunities as I am intrinsically inclined towards social and environmental goals. Both experiences required a high degree of analysis, attention to detail, and the conducting of desk-based research to synthesise and collate the findings of a multitude of national and international reports. On one hand, such activities allowed me to sharpen my research and concise report-writing skills. And on the other hand, this research allowed my senior colleagues and me to implement Maltas National Action Plan for a Child Guarantee, formulate Maltas policy to counteract alcohol abuse, and kickstart the agenda-setting phase of Maltas adoption of the European Farm to Fork Strategy. Furthermore, at the Ministry for Social Justice, I aided in contacting various stakeholders, such as academics, NGOs, and government officials so that they could attend and voice their concerns at the Family 2022 public consultation event.
Expectations
Preferably, the position that I occupy in the future would allow me to exercise my appreciation for research, sales, and teaching in one go.
I consider myself to be very academically inclined and therefore I would be highly interested in any research position that allows me to flex my understanding of economics, transport and mobility, sustainability practices and/or good governance.
