New Grad Software Engineer
Summary
So far I had 3 internships, 2 with Anthem during Summer21 & Fall21 and with Amazon during Summer 22.
Anthems tech stack I worked with: Java Spring Stack with Drools Rule Engine
Here I was working as a regular part of a team, working on Jira tickets, attending daily standups, etc. At the time they were reworking their backend claim validation system and we had to create a bunch of Drools Engine rules based on the analysts requests, write new API endpoints, refactor old code based on some requests, etc.
Amazons tech stack: Java and a bunch of Amazons proprietary software
Here I was given an intern project for the summer. My team was called MultiDevice Experience and they were enabling Alexa devices to dispatch commands to other devices, quite literally enabling a multi-device experience. My project was to make the Alexa, end the call multi-device oriented by allowing Alexa to end the call using any Alexa device, not just the one having a call. For that I had to make changes to 3 codebases: my teams, Calling teams, and the one that provides the necessary context for Alexa devices.
The first 6 weeks out of 16 were spent working on the projects Design Document which meant lots of code research, meetings with Product Managers, attending different teams office hours, and requesting help/guidance from senior engineers from all three teams.
After I completed the design doc, outlining all the changes that had to be made, we conducted a design review with all 3 teams. After a few iterations of feedback new review, the rest of the time was spent implementing all the changes, testing the changes on actual physical devices, doing a demo at the end of the internship
