Summary
I helped a startup create and inplement a robust big data proccesing infrastructure saving over 1milion+ of dollars yearly with self hosted opensource systems and tools, also lead general devops cost optimisation saving 500k in total yearly cost, mainly due to bad artitechture and resourse over provisioning. And all of this was done without any training budget without any prior experince on big data pipelines.
Expectations
I served the role of setting up and helping Data Enginners with how to use the tools since the team lacked any prior experience (senior backend engineers) with data engineering.
I expect the new employer to give me support to slowly enter data engineering also, as i love to get involved with other team members and share my ideas, something the previous company would not opt for because of my importance on managing and maintaining everything on my own, so there was really no room for anything extra.
