Data Scientist

Summary

Currently, I am on a 3-month contract as a Speech and Data Scientist at Nuance Communications, Montreal. Also, I recently graduated from Dalhousie University with a Masters degree in Applied Computer Science. On the technical front, I have experience in designing and developing end-to-end machine learning solutions. I can extract, transform and load data, and perform analytics on it by building machine learning models. And not just that, I can deploy the solutions developed using cloud services like AWS, Azure.
Prior to my Masters, I worked as a Python developer in the Robotics Process Automation division at Standard Chartered GBS, India. During my tenure, I worked on several projects that involved data sourcing, transformation and analysis in the financial domain. The job also required me to create visualizations using tools like Tableau for client presentations. The experience of working on live projects involving big data introduced me to the machine learning field. My curiosity led me to take up courses like Advanced Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning for Big Data during post-graduation.
I have worked on a slew of academic projects that highlight my ability to comprehend and implement research papers in NLP and Machine Learning. However, to truly appreciate the impact of machine learning, I realized I would have to go beyond personal projects and online courses. This led me to pursue my internship as a Speech Scientist at Nuance. Here, I had the opportunity to perform textual analytics using techniques like topic modeling, word embeddings and sentiment analysis. I was presented the Caught in the Act award and extended as a contractor by Nuance Communications for completing four projects in a short span of five months. Also, my experience as a teaching assistant for Data warehousing, analytics and management for three consecutive terms enhanced my skills in Big Data.
By the end of my contract at Nuance, I will have gained nearly 3.5 years of experience in building machine learning models taking my academic projects also into account. My team also won the Innovation Challenge competition held by RBC, IBM and Deloitte for developing a machine learning based solution to combat illegal fishing.

Expectations

An ideal job would be where I can do a mix of machine learning and software development. I have experience in designing end-to-end machine learning solutions. I can extract, transform and load data, and perform analytics on it by building machine learning models. And not just that, I can deploy the developed solutions using cloud services like AWS, Azure. So if I can do all this in a workplace, I am up for it!
