Cloud Engineer

Summary

Working in a small team to deliver a next-generation platform for running modern microservices efficiently. Platform is completely defined in IaC with terraform and the core is based on Kubernetes (EKS) with ancillary services providing additional features.
* From zero experience with IaC and container orchestration, to deploying EKS clusters via Terraform with all supporting components and configuration.
* Solving a compliance requirement of encryption in transit, by designing and implementing a solution that gives end to end seamlessly managed TLS encryption using AWS NLB, k8s ingress controllers and cert-manager integrated with an external certificate authority.
* Working with application developers on-boarding their applications on to our Kubernetes platform.
* Assessed various scaling scenarios with timings. Analysed these scenarios in detail and discovered various factors which introduced latency. Implemented fixes to ensure scaling could be achieved in an allowed timeframe.
* Contributed to upstream projects via helm chart fixes and updates to 3rd party terraform modules.
* Implemented components to integrate with other services used in the organisation for platform monitoring and logging.
* Investigated and deployed kubecost with a proposed process to ensure efficient resource us enabling greater cost efficiency.
