Senior BE Developer (Ruby)

Job Description

Responsible for collaborating with architecture to deliver high quality software solutions while providing guidance to junior developers.

Act as a technical subject matter expert in regards to backend architecture and development.

Work with the Software Development Management to establish technical strategy, scope of work, execution plans, and project milestones

Help establish best practices and standards while mentoring other developers.

Provide operational and technical direction and support to software development teams, removing obstacles and enforcing focus as needed

Understand how to translate business requirements to technical architectures and designs

Provide technical leadership by enforcing the vision of the application architecture in collaboration with architects and other team leads

Apply expertise in software development to design and implement solutions that meet high requirements on quality and scalability

Drive root cause analyses to improve operational performance

Meet with internal and external customers to develop or clarify requirements and schedules.

Lead development life cycle processes and best practices, including deployment automation, testing automation and monitoring

Serve as a liaison to help bridge gaps between teams of different expertise:

Facilitate the translation of business objectives and requirements into specific software engineering objectives.

Identify and communicate development related dependencies to internal and external teams as needed.

Communicate the capabilities and limitations of technical solutions in language that is accessible to team members of varying technical expertise.

Represent the development team as a knowledgeable technical resource in external and internal meetings.

As a senior member in the Software Development team, assist in growing and supporting departmental personnel:

Coach and motivate staff to encourage maximum team performance.

Identify and promote educational opportunities that will raise the expertise and velocity of team members.

Product or Technology Evaluation and Expertise:

Develop technical documentation for faster, easier new hire onboarding

Oversee technical deliverables, coaching and mentoring of junior developers

Conduct code reviews and perform code migrations

Debug and troubleshoot defects

Experience with AWS services and environment is preferred

Strong understanding of Object Oriented design and methodologies

Hands-on experience, working knowledge and strong technical skills in many of the following technologies:

Restful Web Services, XML, JSON

Database technologies such as Postgres, Oracle

Ruby, Java, Elixir

Data modelling (NoSQL, RDBMS, ORM, etc), CI/CD deployments, Enterprise Application Integration patterns, Data consistency models used in distributed computing

Microservices, Distributed Systems
