Optical Metrology Engineer / Senior Optical Engineer

Summary:

Designs, develops, builds and tests systems and products based on optic, photonic and laser technologies. Interacts with device, hardware and software design teams to assist in overall development of optical systems; specifying, selecting and qualifying active and passive optical components, developing and benchmarking system performance models, developing and implementing test procedures and/or evaluating and selecting appropriate test instrumentation. Provides multi-discipline support to instrumentation production by resolving technical issues associated with components, parts, products or systems; testing of new and existing designs and documentation of changes through a formal engineering change notification process. May provide recommendations for cost reduction efforts. May apply quantitative analysis in determining root cause of highly technical problems and propose, develop and implement solutions for corrective action.

Job Description:

Within the framework of the growth of VIAVI Solutions France is currently looking for a metrology engineer. Within the R&D Department based in Saint Etienne (60 people), you will report to the head of the "Analog & Optical Electronics" group.

You will be in charge of the metrology laboratory from the point of view of calibration of our tools. You will also be involved in all R&D projects concerning the certification of new products according to the various standards required for their marketing (safety, RoHS, CE and FDA declarations). Finally, you will be the referent for the standardization aspects, in particular through participation in the various IEC groups related to our products.

Your main missions will be:

- Technical responsibility of the metrology laboratory in order to provide calibrations to guarantee the specifications of our products, at the level of the production tools.

- Maintain the COFRAC ISO 17025 accreditations of the metrology laboratory and develop new calibration methods in line with future needs (laser class).

- Responsibility for the certification part and technical and commercial interface with the certification bodies.

- Representation of VIAVI in IEC standardization committees.

Required Skills:

- Holder of an engineering degree (classical training preferred CPGE/Ecole d'ingénieur), a specialization and/or experience in the field of optics and/or optical measurement would be highly appreciated (Minimum experience: 5 years).

- Good synthesis and communication skills, including in English due to the international context of our group and the standardization aspect.

- Autonomous and rigorous, you also know how to communicate in order to work as a team on different projects.

Required Knowledge:

- Metrology: optical power, time, frequency, reflectance.

- Optical fiber measurements: OTDR, OSA, CD/PMD.

- Standards IEC 61746, IEC 61315, IEC 62129, IEC 62522, IEC 60825, IEC 61010.

- Standards Committee IEC TC 86 WG4, IEC SC 86C WG1.
